• Most of the film, including all Academy scenes, were filmed on the campus of the University of Missouri-Columbia.
  
• The sets for the interior of the restaurant, Luctor's mansion, and others were constructed in the same lab space in Lafferre Hall as was used for the Mummy film.


• The wood and styrofoam walls used to create the Aztec tomb for the Mummy film were repainted and used in AoD for the interior of Luctor's mansion.


• Sabrina Braden didn't just play La Torcha, she also designed and created all of her own costumes (except for the mask itself). She also worked in the wardrobe department for the Mummy film.


• The wrestling venue was filmed at The Blue Note in Columbia.


• The working title for the script was "Wrestling Women vs. the Brainiac," which was an homage to the English titles of some famous Mexican films that were dubbed for release in the US in the 1960s.


• Jeff's brother Scott, who created the body of IDAKTOR for the Mummy film, created the jet pack for AoD.


• Scott's son Kent, who played the mini-creature in the Mummy film, served as the jet pack test pilot prior to filming and received a burn to his leg when the fuel cylinder ruptured during testing.


• The jet pack also malfunctioned on set during filming, but mini-assassin Kent Martin was uninjured because of safety features added during testing.


• Despite a fear of spiders, professional wrestler Dan Flynn portrayed the henchman who was killed by the Columbian Death Spider.


• Dan developed a new phobia -- one involving a fear of wooden boards being swung at his head -- after portraying the creature that was struck in the head with a board by Mil.


• Justin Powers played multiple creatures in the film, all of which were killed.


• Jeff played the creature with grey facial hair that fought La Torcha.


• The flamethrower battle was filmed at the Columbia fire training center.
• The only flamethrower-related injury was a mild case of frostbite when a crew member touched a pipe that was frozen from the flow of liquid propane.


• All interiors and exteriors for the Baron's mansion were filmed at the Guitar Mansion in Columbia.


• Academy of Doom was shot almost entirely on campus and is the only one of the three films to be shot entirely within the city of Columbia.


• Professional wrestler Julie McCoy played the Baron's daughter Nancy; the wrestler Medea; one of the creatures (with Dan) who fought Mil; and a henchwoman in the final battle in front of the mansion.


• Like the other two films, Jeff's script for AoD included several references to other films and TV shows. One notable example is the parallel between Baron Crater and his daughter Nancy and Robert Crater and his wife Nancy from the Salt Vampire episode from the original Star Trek series.


• Brighton Mirtsching (the daughter of Kurt "The Professor" Mirtsching) is featured as Maura in this film and in Aztec Revenge.


• Lorena and Elizabeth were originally intended to have narrow masks like other Academy students, but Jeff was concerned that one or both might not always be available because of classes and other constraints so he suggested that they should have full masks to allow another actress to substitute if necessary.


• The filming location for the office of the Headmistress of the Academy was the actual office of the Chairman of the Computer Science Department. An unknowing visitor was more than a bit confused when he knocked on the door and saw a punching bag and other wrestling paraphernalia inside.


• Mil Mascaras was officially a visiting professor at the University during filming of AoD.


• Jeff purchased the cane for Luctor because it had a blue jewel on its handle reminiscent of the jewel on the mummy's scepter in the first film.


• Marty Walker, who played a member of the Joint Chiefs in the first film, plays a security guard in AoD with a name tag that says "F. Wills" -- the name of the security guard who discoved the infamous Watergate break-in.


• In the script the security guard is shot in the neck with a poison dart and drops dead, but Marty's inspired performance contributed to make the scene even more memorable.


• The character names "Lorena", "Elizabeth", and "Maura" were chosen to honor memborable Mexican lucha film actresses Lorena Valazquez, Elizabeth Campbell, and Maura Monti.


• The flamethrower sequence was shot at the Columbia fire training station. Filming had to be scrapped because of rain and was only able to be rescheduled because the third shoot of the Mummy film continued after filming was scheduled to end for AoD.


• One of the women's sports teams showed up while the crew was setting up for the film's locker room scenes. Even though the production had properly reserved the space, the coach insisted that the team had priority and refused to leave. This disruption led to rushed filming with limited time to properly prepare lighting and audio.


• Shortly after the filming of AoD was completed, all of the walls and other set materials from the first two films had to be removed from the space in Lafferre Hall so that it could be renovated as the University's Center for Geospatial Intelligence.


• Like the trailer for MMvsAM, Jeff wrote and narrated the trailer for AoD.
